Containers Stranded at Major Ports in Asia And Europe

Although spot freight rates continue to fall as global shipping capacity increases, congestion problems still exist in the largest ports in Asia and Northern Europe.

As the world's largest transshipment center and the second largest hub, containers often stay in the port for as long as a week. According to statistics, the average stay time for containers to be transferred from one ship to another is 7.1 days. The situation in Rotterdam Port is even more serious, with an average of 9.1 days for each container to complete the transshipment. The average waiting time for containers in Antwerp Port, located on the border between the Netherlands and Belgium, has also reached 6.7 days. It is worth noting that these two ports had reduced operating efficiency due to multiple dock workers' strikes in February. Especially for the Port of Antwerp, according to the latest announcement, the terminal operated by DP World is facing serious challenges in covering all loading and unloading areas. Due to the extremely crowded yard, the terminal has begun to take emergency response measures.
